iPark Institute Co., Ltd. Announces Commencement of Operations

● iPi Business Preparation Company (renamed today as “iPark Institute Co., Ltd.”) took over operation of Takeda’s Shonan iPark following an absorption-type company split on April 1, 2023

● Seeks to facilitate sustainable growth of multifaceted life science ecosystems by leveraging the combined knowledge and experience of IIF, Takeda, and Mitsubishi Corp.

On April 1, 2023, iPi Business Preparation Company (“iPi Business Preparation”) took over operations of Shonan Health Innovation Park (“Shonan iPark”) from Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited (“Takeda”) as the result of an absorption-type company split. Takeda had been previously operating Shonan iPark on behalf of Industrial & Infrastructure Fund Investment Corporation (“IIF”), following IIF’s acquisition of trust beneficiary rights to a trust holding Shonan iPark’s land and facility assets. On the same day as the handover, Takeda also transferred a portion of the shares of iPi Business Preparation to IIF and Mitsubishi Corporation (“Mitsubishi Corp.”).
As a result of this move, IIF, Takeda, and Mitsubishi Corp. became major shareholders in iPi Business Preparation. In addition, iPi Business Preparation has today been renamed as “iPark Institute Co., Ltd.”

iPark Institute Co., Ltd. will maintain Shonan iPark’s founding philosophy of aiming to facilitate the sustained development of multifaceted life science ecosystems by managing the science park in an impartial and objective manner.

“Shonan iPark opened in 2018 with the aim of building a life sciences ecosystem that is open to the world,” said Toshio Fujimoto, Chief Executive Officer of iPark Institute Co., Ltd. “Thanks to the support of the many stakeholders who have worked together to promote open innovation, Shonan iPark has grown into a community of over 150 companies and organizations. Now that Shonan iPark is being operated by iPark Institute Co., Ltd. as an independent entity, we aim to further enhance our status as a neutral hub and magnet for innovation. Moving forward, we will create a space where diverse collaborations may be facilitated in a free and open manner, with the hope that innovation from Shonan iPark will transcend borders and deliver health benefits to people all over the world. Moreover, we intend for Shonan iPark to become a key driver of socioeconomic growth for the local region.”

Notes
1. Company Name
The new name “iPark Institute” combines the established “iPark” brand with the word “Institute” to represent an organization with the combined goals of serving as an independent research institute that facilitates the collaborative implementation of innovative ideas and fostering the development of entrepreneurs.

2. Logo
The iPark Institute logo is based upon the original Shonan iPark logo, which featured six blue dots forming a wave above the word “iPark”, with the word “Shonan” beneath. The dots represent the concept that initially small ideas can resonate together to create huge waves of innovation. The new logo maintains the dots and “iPark” text to represent innovation. The word “Shonan” has been removed to represent our intention for the work conducted at Shonan iPark to result in innovations that spread beyond our local area and have an impact on the entire world.
* The former logo featuring the word “Shonan” will continue to be used to represent “Shonan Health Innovation Park” science park.
